William Michael (Mike) Dunnahoo, beloved husband, father, and esteemed member of the Abilene community, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 74. Born on January 12, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Betty Jo Dunnahoo-Kretow and Major Jack Dunnahoo. Mr. D, as he was affectionately known, devoted his life to both his family and his passion for the automotive industry.
Mike was the proud owner of Star Auto Group (Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram & Hyundai in Abilene TX and Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram & Ford in Big Spring TX), where he worked tirelessly to build strong lasting relationships with his customers and employees alike. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence contributed significantly to the local economy and the community he cherished. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was deeply engaged in civic service, exemplified by his time as the Chair of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, a Board Member & President of the Boy Scouts of America, and his active participation in the Abilene Education Foundation, on the board of United way, supportive of the Dyess Air Force Base.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Pat Dunnahoo; daughter, Che Samples and husband Brandon; son, Blake Dunnahoo and Candace Riddle; grandchildren Skylar, K’Lynn, Kason, Kynzi, and Kolbyn; his half-sisters Vicki Kretow Bateman and Patty Goodwin. Together, they will carry forward his legacy of kindness, dedication, and service to others.
In remembrance of Mike’s life and lasting impact on the community, a Celebration Service will be held at Wylie Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road in Abilene on October 18, 2025, at 2:00PM. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate his life and share cherished memories. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at Piersall Funeral Directors on October 17, 2025, from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
Mike Dunnahoo’s warmth, generosity, and leadership will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents: John and Betty Jo Kretow, Major Jack Dunnahoo & Hilde Dunnahoo, Half-sisters Sammy Fisher and Kathy Rains, half-brothers Richard Kretow and Stephen Dunnahoo.
