William Richard (Bill) Bergman

May 11, 1938 — June 29, 2017

William Richard (Bill) Bergman passed away on June 29, 2017 at home in Abilene, TX. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 2 at Southern Hills Church of Christ in the Chapel, with visitation following the service.

Born on May 11, 1938 in Mercedes, TX, Bill grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and attended school at Ed Couch Elsa High School. Enlisting in the Navy in July 1958 he served as a radar technician on an anti-submarine aircraft until June of 1962.

On February 20, 1961 Bill married the love of his life, Wanette Fry and they enjoyed 56 years together. In 1971, Bill and Wanette moved to Abilene and started their family business Texas Communications, which expanded to San Angelo and College Station and provided employment for numerous family members over many years. Bill thought of and treated his many long time employees like part of his family.

Perhaps Bills greatest joy was that of being a Pawpaw to his loving grandchildren. And a great Pawpaw he was. Friday nights often found Bill watching football games, basketball games, drag races or numerous other activities involving his grandkids.

Bill is survived by his wife, Wanette Bergman. Children, Chris (Lona) Bergman of Georgetown, Lewis (Kayleen) Bergman of Abilene, and Laura (Jay) Evans of Abilene. Grandchildren, Keith, Lauren, Addison and Hayden Bergman, Tanner (Mara) Evans, Bailey (Blake) Hoke, and Jayton Evans. Great grandchildren, Olivia & Rebekkah Bergman and Emree Hoke. One sister Audrey (Frank) McKnight. Brothers-in-law Steve (Peggy) Fry, Chet (Alana) Fry. Sisters-in-law Suzanne (Louie) Blount, Carolyn (Larry) Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

The family wishes to thank Hendrick Hospice for their wonderful care and thoughtfulness.
