Wanda Jean Darnold

Wanda Jean Gattis Darnold, 83, of Hawley, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, with a funeral service on Monday, July 27th at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, officiated by nephew Joe Roberts Jr.  Burial will follow at the Rising Star Cemetery.

Wanda was born on May 3, 1943, in Brownwood,Texas to Frank and Ida Gattis and went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 24, 2026. She graduated from Kermit High School before studying bookkeeping and receiving her CMA. She was employed by Dr. Akin for many years. She also worked and retired as a supervisor in the Senior Citizen Division for the City of Abilene. Wanda was a member of Elm Creek Baptist Church.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, and stepfather Hansel Sherrill, husband David Darnold, and son Curtis Darnold.

She is survived by sister Linda Roberts (Joe) of Abilene; son Marvin Rush (Ginger) of DeRidder, Louisiana; daughters Sondra Rush Cox (Carl) of Tuscola and Linda Rush Hansen (Tom) of Hawley; sons James Darnold (Tammy) of Abilene, Kenneth Darnold (Elaine) of St. Augustine, Florida and daughters Michelle Darnold Williams of Sweetwater, Tammy Darnold Cobb of Andrews, and Gloria Darnold Greaver (Bruce) of Abilene. She loved and cherished her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Devin Perry, Ryan Perry, Colton Childress, Chase Irby, Brent Irby, and Seth Childress.
