Timothy Lewis Deveny

November 25, 1947 — June 4, 2025

Abilene

Timothy Lewis Deveny of Abilene, Texas passed away June 4, 2025 after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.

Tim was the second of twins born in Abilene, Texas November 25, 1947, son of Robert Lewis Deveny and Mary Kathryn Lawyer. He grew up in San Diego, California, riding bikes and exploring the canyons below their house. Tim always worked - from the age of a small boy he would go around the neighborhood asking anyone if he could “tine their toos” (shine their shoes). He worked in high school at Woolworth’s, making hamburgers and fries. He had boundless energy and always enjoyed working.

After high school Tim came to Texas to attend Abilene Christian College, where he met and later married his partner for life, Vicki Allen. After graduation on a Friday, he began working selling cars the following Monday and never left the business which he loved and was successful. Tim made friends with the people he sold cars to, had repeat customers and for years he could remember a person’s name and when and what car he had sold them. Tim loved the Lord, loved his family, and encouraged his children to be faithful. His reverent prayers over family at gatherings were sincere and full of emotion.

Tim was upright as well in his business deals. He would put his own profit last if it meant making a deal, and dealers knew his cars would be brought up to the highest possible standards if they bought from him.

Tim’s other passion besides work was fishing. He and some of his cohorts would often make trips down to Venice, Louisiana to fish for reds and whatever else they could catch and have a great time while at it. Tim, Vicki and their children also spent many happy summer vacations traveling to Port Aransas. Tim loved to share his favorite sport of fishing with his kids. After a morning of going off-shore to deep sea fish he could be found fishing in the surf that afternoon, where one summer he caught 13 different varieties of fish!

Tim is survived by his wife, Vicki, and three children, Nicole Dickey and husband Brad of Lubbock, David Deveny and wife Lauren of Aledo, and Elissa Farah and husband Tony of Arlington and eight grandchildren, Case and wife McKenna Dickey, Skye and Drew Dickey, Nolan, Clara and Dean Deveny, and Samson and Simon Farah.

He is also survived by his twin brother Jim of Boston, Massachusetts and younger brother Denny of Portland, Oregon and many well loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
