Steven ”Scooter” Lee Williams, 74, of Abilene, passed away September 21, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at home.
Steven was born on November 7, 1950, in Abilene, TX, to Roger Grover (R.G.) and Dulcy Mae (Claxton) Williams. After graduating high school, Steve joined the Navy and served proudly aboard the USS Trenton. He continued his service as a corpsman in the Naval Reserves, retiring after 34 years. In his civilian life, Steve worked as a dental technician for many years and later dedicated more than 25 years to The Home Depot.
On November 11, 1989, Steve married Reisa Stewart, and together they raised two daughters, Kailee Anne and Grace Elizabeth. On July 16, 2016, he married Jessie Maye Williams at the Cowboy Heritage Church in Clyde, TX. Steven and Jessie Maye remained active members of the Highland Church of Christ.
A man of skill and grit, Steve was rarely without a project in his workshop. He could build nearly anything and often proved it through his woodworking. He loved dove hunting, fishing with his brothers on Possum Kingdom Lake, and watching old westerns; never tiring of John Wayne or cheering on his Dallas Cowboys.
Though hardworking and faithful, Steve also had a lighter side. Quick with a grin or playful remark, he delighted in making others smile. He was dependable, generous, and a touch stubborn, in the best possible way. If you needed a hand, he would give you two… and likely the shirt off his back as well.
Above all, Steve was a faithful servant of the Lord, a devoted husband, dad, Papa, brother, and friend. His love for family, his service to the church, his commitment to the American Legion, and his willingness to always show up for others form the legacy he leaves behind.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jessie Maye of Abilene; daughters, Kailee (Williams) Kreger and husband Casey, and granddaughter Esther, of Newcastle, OK; and Grace (Williams) Reyes, with grandchildren Avery and Abel, of Wichita Falls, TX; stepchildren, Teresa Donaghey and husband Jimmy, with grandsons Joseph and Jacob, of Wichita Falls, TX; and Stephanie Powell of Temple, TX; brothers, Roger Williams of Lewisville, TX, Glen Williams and wife Sandra of Pilot Point, TX, and Terry St. Pierre and wife Karen of Abilene, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.G. and Dulcy (Claxton) St. Pierre; stepfather, Eddy St. Pierre; sister-in-law, Becky Williams; and brother, Bruce Williams.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 9:00AM at Piersall Chapel, 733 Butternut St., Abilene, TX, with a graveside service to follow. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations made to Alpha Omega Hospice of Abilene.
