Lavelle Whitaker

Ruby “Lavelle” Whitaker, 83 of Abilene, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017.  Funeral services will be on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  A visitation with the family will be on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Lavelle was born in Jones County, Texas on November 4, 1933 to David and Ruby Glaze.  A graduate of Hawley High School, Lavelle lived her entire life in the Big Country.  In November of 1960, Lavelle married Joe Whitaker in Anson and would spend many years as a stay at home mom.  When she decided on a career, Lavelle chose to be a Real Estate agent for Century 21 in Abilene.  Lavelle enjoyed traveling with her daughter Melanie and spending time outdoors camping all over Texas.

Lavelle was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe Whitaker, brother Richard Glaze and son Kevin Harris.  She is survived by her daughter Melanie Whitaker of Abilene and son Brett Whitaker of Forney, Texas; grandchildren Jason Whitaker of Forney, Kristina Harris Martin of Dallas and Chris Harris of Austin; two great-grandchildren, Hope and Ella Martin of Dallas and nephews David Glaze of Arizona and Norman Glaze of Abilene.
