Paul Allen Lang was born on March 31, 1932, in Roosevelt, Utah, to John Milton and Edith Marie Perkins Lang. He passed at age 93, on December 15, 2025, in Abilene, Texas.
Paul and his sister, Martha, were raised in Gainesville, Texas, and at an early age Paul developed a real talent for drawing and illustration. He was a self-taught artist, and he began a lifelong career in art, design, and creativity. First at Thomas Neon Sign Company in Gainesville and Abilene, as painter, letterer and designer. Then as an award-winning commercial artist at Womack-Claypoole Advertising Agency in Odessa, Texas (where we "MOJO"-ed with the best of 'em). And finally, a decades-long role as Art Director for Casa Bonita Restaurants. He helped design, build, and decorate all the artistic features of the interior and exterior of Casa Bonita/Denver, as well as Taco Bueno and Crystal's Pizza.
In 1954 Paul married Jeanne Rae Flowers, and together they had a family of four children: Cheryl, David, Kerri, and Jonathan. Paul and Jeanne were married for 70 years, until her death in 2024. He loved and cared for her as a devoted husband (and mischievously fun partner). They lived and laughed fully!
Paul loved his Lord Jesus, loved the Church, and served wherever he lived. He was a deacon at the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene and at the 6th and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa, an elder at the Golden Church of Christ in Colorado and at the Garden Ridge Church of Christ in Lewisville, Texas, and a (favorite) Bible class teacher at the Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas.
And it was as a Bible class teacher that Paul found another true joy and calling. Whether teaching children by "chalk talk" (telling Bible stories while illustrating them with pastel chalks), or teaching teenagers how to use their lives for God, or adults in the creative, funny, faithful way he had - Paul was enthralled by and enthralling with the Word of God.
Faithful son and brother, loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Rae, his parents, John Milton and Edith Marie, His daughters Cheryl and Kerri, and a dear brother-in-law, R.H. Risser. He is survived by his sister, Martha Risser, and four nieces; by his son David Lang and his wife Stephanie, his son Jonathan Lang and his wife Randa; and by his grandchildren Sarah, Ben, Andrew and Brian Lang, and Ashley and Brady Lang, and Josh and T.J. Hunt.
Funeral services for Paul will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville, Texas. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville.
