Nancy Smith Burdine, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Hillcrest Church of Christ, with internment at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Nancy was born on March 25, 1939 to Mary Violet and George Smith, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Jerry; sons Greg, Todd, and Brandon; daughters-in-law Sam and Stephanie and four grandchildren.
Nancy met Jerry while working as a car hop in Abilene in 1955. They married in 1956 and relocated to Datil, New Mexico where Jerry became a truck driver. Nancy and Jerry spent most of their years between Abilene and Angleton, Texas where Nancy enjoyed raising her boys, buying and selling antiques, spending time with church friends and her family, including four sisters, a brother and their extended families. In retirement, Nancy and Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters Menda Sanders and Jeanene Irvin in Abilene where they currently reside. Nancy was known for her sweet and fiery spirit and her love for the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
