Mariama Kemokai

January 1, 1984 — May 21, 2017

Mariama Kemokai, 33 of Abilene, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Highland Church of Christ.  A time to visit with the family will be on Monday, May 29, 2017 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Mariama was born in Kakata, Liberia on January 1, 1984 to James and Maria Kemokai.  The family came to Abilene in 2004 and Mariama started working for Aramark Food Services at Dyess Air Force Base and at Hardin-Simmons University.  Mariama was part of the growing Liberian community in Abilene and she attended the Highland Church of Christ.  She was grateful and thankful to everyone for their kindness and help.  She was giving and gracious, willing to help others at any time and always willing to share her faith.  She mentored many children, was known in the community as “The Candy Lady” and praised God in everything that she did.  Mariama had a strong love of family and will be missed by hers.

Mariama was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by the entire Kemokai and Massaquoi families, which include many brothers, sister, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Share the Joy for Mariama Kemokai at the Highland Church of Christ.
