Louis Franklin Sims, 88, of Abilene, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Highland Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday,
November 25, 2025, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. A visitation will follow in the atrium immediately after the services. Burial will take place at Ebony Cemetery in Mills County, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Frank was born on January 5, 1937, to Mary Iola Edge and Carlos Samuel Sims in Moran, Texas. He attended school in Anson, Texas, and always loved sports. He lettered in four sports at Anson High School and won many awards for his contributions to the teams. He attended Abilene Christian College for one year on a track scholarship but soon felt the call to begin working. He married the first love of his life, Lafon Jowers, in 1958. He spent several years working in the oilfield and raising his young family. His daughter, Christie, and sons, Scott and Mark, gave him great joy as he attended their school events and coached their Little League teams. He loved his players and was always glad to hear from them.
He had the opportunity to go into the carpet-cleaning business in the mid-1960s and went on to enjoy a 50-year career. He was respected for his integrity and commitment to excellence and considered his customers his friends. For many consecutive years, he was named the Abilene Reporter-News “Best Carpet Cleaner of the Year.”
He met the second love of his life, Nelda (Nell) Macon, in a Singles Again class at Highland, and they married in 1979. At that time, he gained another son, Steve, and two more daughters, Lynn and Angela.
He is survived by his wife, Nell; his daughter, Christie Sims MacnolI (Gary) and his sons, Scott Sims (Tammy), Mark Sims (Allison), and Nell’s children: Steve Macon (Paula), Lynn Macon Brown (Doug), and Angela Macon Barker; He is also survived by his grandchildren: Shea Sims Moses (Tyler), Trey Sims (Sarah), Cameron Sims, Caleb Sims (Meagan), Mason Macnoll (Meagan), Marla Macnoll Bunnell (Grayson), Haylee Macon Jackson (Donald), Dylan Macon (Machyn), and Adam Barker; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Sims (Vivian).
Frank is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Dian Sims and Verna Theiss; and his brothers-in-law, Dick Theiss and John Holder.
