Lola Dene Eades Courtright (87) went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 7, 2022.

She was born on July 4, 1934 to Thomas William and Mattie Lea (Bowling) Eades in

Formosa, AR. The family has many beautiful memories celebrating this incredible woman’s

birthday each year with picnics, watermelon, and fireworks galore. Her childhood was spent

in Arkansas and Missouri where her she graduated two years early from Deering High

School in Kennet, MO and went on to attend Harding University in Searcy, AR where she

made lifelong friends. The Eades family moved to San Diego, CA during WWII where Lola

received a Home Economics degree from San Diego State. California would also be where

Lola met the love of her life, Navy pilot LT. Kenneth Courtright of Brownwood, TX at El Cajon

Church of Christ. The two were married and soon after moved to Texas where Ken built a

career in Law and Trust Banking in San Angelo, Abilene and San Antonio. During this time

Lola also built a career selling real estate, was a small business owner, and served as Ken’s

legal secretary. Lola was a devoted mother who committed her life to supporting and loving

their daughter Leslie and son Christopher. Ken lost his battle to cancer in 2006 and in 2017

Lola moved back to Abilene to be near her daughter. She was a talented decorator and

seamstress and always had a beautiful, welcoming home wherever she lived and was

happiest when her home was filled with the laughter of her friends and family. She had a

passion for building a community wherever she was, served as a dedicated member of her

church, and volunteered at local public libraries and the Salvation Army. Lola was a true

example of a Proverbs 31 woman, ‘her children rise up and call her blessed and her

husband praises her”. Lola adored travel, especially with her husband Ken, and although

she traveled around the globe her favorite places to visit were Scotland and England. She

was beloved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew her as the graceful

  and witty “Lalo”.

Preceding her in death in addition to Ken were her parents, her sister, Edrie Eades Hart

and brothers, Charles Eades and Wilburn Eades. She is survived by a daughter Leslie and

husband Dick Andrews and their son Matthew Andrews and his wife Vanessa, and great

grandchildren Coralee and Cason of Bryan, TX, their other son, Scott Andrews and wife

Melissa, great-grandson, Trevor. A son Christopher and wife Claudia and their children

Kimberly and Phillip of San Antonio, TX and Stephanie and her husband Ryan Burns of

College Station, TX. Her sister-in-law Wanda Eades of Muldrow, OK and many beloved

nephews, nieces and cousins on both sides of the family also survive her. The family would

like to give particular thanks to Christy Bain, FNP, Kinder Hearts Home Health and Hendrick

Hospice for their loving and attentive care. Lola wished to be cremated and a memorial

service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be sent to: S. A. Life Academy c/o

St. Andrews Church and School, 722 Robinhood Place, San Antonio, TX, 78209, Hendrick

Hospice Care 1651 Pine St, Abilene, TX 79601, or a charity of your choice.
