On April 1, 2026, heaven welcomed Leslie Scott Rich, 66, as he walked through the pearly gates. No longer shackled by the chains of disease, Leslie is finally free of his physical limitations. Funeral services celebrating his life will be on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Born on November 25, 1959, in Colorado City to Hubert Lynn and Mary Louise Rich, Leslie began his journey through life with determination and a quiet, resilient spirit. As the only boy in a family with three sisters, Leslie--affectionately known as "Bubba" until he decided the name was no long "cool" --was admittedly a little spoiled. However, his work ethic surfaced early. At the age of 12, he began busing tables and working in his father's automotive shop, determined to earn his own way. His sisters, Marylynn, Kim, and Lisa remained his lifelong cheerleaders.
After graduation, Leslie began his career in the oil industry. It was through his mother's matchmaking that he met the love of his life, Kathryn Moore, who had moved to Sterling City to teach. They married in 1983 and completed their family with two children, Colden Scott and Katelyn Whitney. The family eventually settled in Seminole, Texas, where Leslie continued his work in the oil field until he retired.
He shared 43 years of marriage with the love of his life, Kathy -a woman he often described as perfect. Their life together was marked by deep enduring love that carried them through every season. She was his constant, his partner in all things, and his greatest source of comfort. Kathy cared for him with extraordinary compassion and selflessness, offering not only her strength but her whole heart. Her presence brought him peace, and their love never faltered. Their marriage was a testament to loyalty, sacrifice, and a bond that only deepened with time.
He was a man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith and devotion to his family. He loved his family fiercely, always placing their needs above his own and finding his greatest joy in the moments they shared together. He devoted his time wholeheartedly to his children, using every available vacation day to be present for each of their activities, often showing up in his oil field clothes straight from the job site. If you had the privilege of speaking with him, he would proudly share their accomplishments, giving play-by-plays, recounting each moment with remarkable detail and joy. This unwavering devotion only grew as his family expanded to include their spouses and grandchildren. His character was marked by deep honesty, steadfast loyalty, and quiet strength-qualities that directed his actions and earned the trust and respect of all who knew him.
Guided by his faith and his family's devotion, Leslie served as an Elder for many years at the Westside church of Christ in Seminole, where he and Kathy were members for nearly 30 years. In recent years, he and Kathy moved to Abilene to be closer to their children, where he and Kathy were faithful members of the Oldham Lane church of Christ.
Leslie is survived by his wife, Kathy; their children, Colden (Danlee) Rich and Katelyn (William) Brown; his grandchildren, Ella and Madelyn Rich, and Claire and Layton Scott Brown; his sisters, Marylynn Roever, Kim (Russell) Davis, and Lisa (Kirk) Meador; brother-in-law, Craig (Kim) Moore; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Leslie's steadfast positivity and love for his family ensured his disability never defined him. He remains a profound inspiration to his family and to everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
