Kathy Rich

On August 8, 2026, heaven welcomed Kathryn Diane (Moore) Rich into its pearly gates where her husband, Leslie, awaited her arrival. Funeral services celebrating her life will be Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Oldham Lane church of Christ in Abilene, TX at 1:00 p.m., under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Born on December 11, 1959, in Childress, TX, Kathryn began life with a bold and tenacious spirit. She led a life of conviction with her faith and love for the Lord being her guiding purpose.

Kathy and her family eventually moved to Quanah, TX, where she spent much of her formative years and graduated from Quanah High School. She later earned her degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech University and began her career in Sterling City, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Leslie Rich. They married in 1983 and completed their family with two children, Colden Scott and Katelyn Whitney. The family eventually settled in Seminole, Texas, where Kathryn continued her career in education and retired. She shared 43 years of marriage with her husband Leslie. Their life together was marked by deep enduring love that carried them through every season. Their marriage was a testament to loyalty, sacrifice, and a bond that only deepened with time. Guided by their faith, Kathryn and Leslie were members at Westside church of Christ for nearly 30 years. In recent years, they moved to Abilene, TX to be closer to their children, where she and Leslie were faithful members of the Oldham Lane church of Christ.

Kathryn dedicated 35 years of her life to her passion for education. Mrs. Rich, as most knew her, was known for her unwavering dedication, her willingness to take on even the greatest challenges, and her remarkable ability to make every person feel seen and valued. She knew every child in her school individually and could call them all by name. Her presence commanded respect, but it was always rooted in care for her students. And, of course, she had a special gift for getting you to behave without ever having to say a word. A simple raised eyebrow, a snap of her fingers, and that unmistakable finger-point were often all it took. Kathryn did far more than teach. She encouraged, guided, challenged, protected, and believed in the children entrusted to her. For generations of students and families, Mrs. Rich was not simply an educator; she was a steady presence, a trusted advocate, and someone who made a lasting difference in their lives.

She was a woman who loved wholeheartedly, gave selflessly, and was always there when she was needed. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished daughter, a beloved sister, and, most especially, a treasured Nonnie to her grandchildren. Her life was defined by dedication, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to the people she loved. She gave so much of herself to caring for her family, always putting their needs before her own. She was their strength, their comfort, and their constant presence. A caregiver in the truest sense of the word. She was a strong example of what it means to love deeply, to stand faithfully beside the people you love, and to give of yourself without asking for anything in return.

She spent her life giving, caring, protecting, teaching, and loving. The epitome of a servant-hearted disciple of Christ. She was the person others could count on, the one who would answer the call, show up, stay beside you, and give whatever she had to give. Her love was fierce, her heart was generous, and her devotion to her family knew no bounds. She made each person she encountered want to be a better version of themselves and reach the potential she saw in them. The greatest measure of her life is found in the countless lives she touched and in the love she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Shirley Moore, and her beloved husband, Leslie Scott Rich. She is survived by her children, Colden (Danlee) Rich and Katelyn (William) Brown; her grandchildren, Ella and Madelyn Diane Rich, and Claire Kathryn and Layton Brown; her brother, Craig (Kim) Moore; her sister-in-laws, Marylynn Roever, Kim (Russell) Davis, and Lisa (Kirk) Meador; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
