Jose Contreraz, 85, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026. A visitation and rosary service will be on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Funeral service will be on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 837 Jeanette Street. Burial to follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories cemetery.
Jose was born on September 7, 1940 in Colorado City, Texas to Silberio and Siriaca Contreras. He was a self-employed carpet layer and basically a jack of all trades. During his time off, he enjoyed working around his home. Jose was a beloved father, brother and son. He enjoyed quality times with everyone in his family. As a young father he would join his children and siblings in sports of all kinds. He enjoyed camping, playing different sports/games, telling stories while sitting at the campfire. He enjoyed weekend gatherings with his children, nephews, nieces, and siblings. He and his brothers enjoyed barbecuing together after a busy day of helping each other with home projects or just watching football at their parents home. He was a beloved grandfather and great grandfather to his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking them on various activities during their visits, which included going to McDonald's, to the park, and movie time with a big tub of popcorn!
Jose was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers Maneul and Pablo Contreras, sister Mary Miller and son Bobby Joe Contreraz. He is survived by his son Jesse Contreraz; daughters Anna and Amanda Contreraz; grandsons Mark and Daniel Contraraz, Adrian Linares and Nicholas Linares; and granddaughter Alyssa Contraraz.
