Janet Lynn Vadney

Janet Lynn Vadney, 76, of Abilene, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Special Events Room at the Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Janet was born on July 29, 1950, in Pecos, Texas to John and Helen Black. She graduated from Grandfalls Royalty ISD as the valedictorian of her class in 1968. She then graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1972 and received a Master of Business Administration in 1994. She worked in public accounting until her retirement.

Janet met Victor Vadney while they were at ACU and they married on May 20, 1972. They spent just over a year in the mission field at Nigerian Christian Hospital. They considered other mission fields before returning to Abilene in 1980.

Janet and Vic were members of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ and Janet went with Vic several times to Ghana to do mission work. She also enjoyed helping to teach children’s Bible classes, teaching 2-year-olds for many years at Oldham Lane.

Janet is preceded in death by her loving husband, Victor, and her parents, John and Helen Black. She is survived by her son, Gabriel, brother John Black and several cousins.
