James Norman Newbury Jr., born September 5, 1951, in Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away in Abilene, Texas, on August 19, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

James graduated from Hawley High School in 1970 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. After his time in the military, he continued serving others as a firefighter with the Abilene Fire Department.

James lived a full life, though not always an easy one. He faced his share of hard times, but he also lived a life with much to be proud of. Through all of life's ups and downs, he remained uniquely James, and his story was entirely his own. He was loved, and his place in his family will not be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Norman Newbury Sr. and Ruth Helen Newbury, and his son, James Norman Newbury III.

James is survived by his daughter, Crystal Newbury & husband Tom; his special niece, Michele Schulthies (Brian); his sisters, Vivian Newbury and Carolin Newbury; his brother, Daryl Newbury; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

James's lived a life with many chapters, some easier than others, and today we choose to remember the whole of it with love.

He will be missed, remembered, and carried in the hearts of those who loved him.
