Jack Hayes Cofer Jr passed from his earthly life to his eternal life on May 7, 2025.
Jack Hayes was born on August 24, 1938 to Jack Hayes Cofer Sr and Ethel Mae (Inmon) Cofer. He graduated from Krum High School in Krum, Texas in 1956. He joined the United States Army in 1957 and served until 1960.
Jack married Peggy Ann Boenker on August 3, 1962. Together they had three children, Brent (Linda) Cofer, Mark (Jan) Cofer, and Jennifer Cofer France.
Jack graduated from North Texas State University in 1969 with his Bachelors in Education and in 1974 with his Masters of Education.
In August of 1969 he moved his family to Abilene to begin his career at Cooper High School, where he taught math. He would later move to the administration building where he was the Assistant Superintendent for Business. In 1990 Jack and Peggy moved to Brownfield to be the Assistant Superintendent until 1995, when he retired. Jack failed retirement and went to work for Texas School Board Association until 2002, when he attempted retirement again.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters, Wanda Coffey, Bess Enis and Carol Chapman. And granddaughter Kristen Nicole Cofer.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy, and children, Brent Cofer, Mark Cofer and Jennifer Cofer France. Eight grandchildren, Lindi Bruning (Bryan), Zachary Cofer (Tara), Jamie Sierra (Andrew), J.T. Cofer (Kia), Hannah Cofer, Christian Cofer, Lauren France, and Jacob France. And seven great grandchildren. His brother, Chris Cofer (Janie), brother-in-law Bennie Enis, and one aunt, Betty Carson. And several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jack had many achievements in his life and was very proud to serve his country and God.
Jack was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
The family would like to thank Hendrick Hospice for taking excellent care of our husband and dad.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Rd, Abilene, TX 79601. Arrangements by Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
