Abilene

Homer Charlie Winkles, age 69, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2025, in Abilene, TX.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Homer lived a life full of passion, kindness, and dedication to his family and community. For over 45 years, Homer was a pillar in the bar industry, eventually fulfilling his dream of owning his own establishments—My Place and Homer’s Bar and Music Venue. His businesses were more than just places to gather; they were spaces filled with warmth, laughter, and lasting memories. Beyond his work, Homer had a generous spirit. He dedicated his time to volunteering at Ben Richey’s Boys Ranch and never missed an opportunity to raise funds for Toys for Tots, ensuring that children in need had a brighter holiday season. Homer found joy in the simple pleasures of life—golfing, fishing, and spending time on the lake. But above all, he cherished his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his children, DeeAnna (Jonathan), Robert (Dawn), Christopher, and Zachary; his grandchildren, Sarah, Jack, Gabriel, Brendan, Nicolas, Nathan, Zoe, Kaden, and Londyn; and his great-grandchildren, Lainey, Loretta, and Lacy. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Robert Phipps, his nieces and nephews, Michele, Stacy, Julie, Aaron, and Owen, as well as his brother-in-law, Larry (Betty), and sister-in-law, Cathy (Ronnie). He is preceded in death by his parents, Peggy and Glen, and his sisters, Sharon and Bonnie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hendrick Hospice Care.
