It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Erika Garner, a devoted schoolteacher who passed away on November 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 48 years old.
Erika was a beacon of light in the lives of her family, friends, and the countless students she educated throughout her career. Born on April 28,1977 in Abilene Texas, she carried a passion for learning and an unwavering commitment to shaping young minds that would define her life’s work. She earned her degree in Liberal Arts from Regis University in Colorado. She went on to get her teaching certificate in Texas and dedicated 10 years to teaching. To her students, she was more than just a teacher; she was a mentor, an inspiration, and a trusted guide who believed in the potential within every child. Her classroom was a place of creativity, kindness, and boundless encouragement.Outside of the classroom, Erika cherished time spent with her church family and her bible study group. Her infectious laughter brought joy to every gathering. She loved traveling with her mom and was always up for a trip, no matter how much outdoor activities were involved.
She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and a deep love for life. She is survived by her loving Mom and Dad, Janice Watts and Randall Watts, her Siblings, Jason Watts and Lena Wolfinger, and a community forever changed by her presence. A Celebration of life service for Erika will be held at Wylie Christian Church, 6250 Buffalo Gap Road on December 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched and the students whose futures she helped build.
