Eduarda "Edna" Rios Paz, 79, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on April 15, 2026. A visitation and rosary service will be on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Service will be on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive, with burial to follow at the Abilene Municipal Cemetery, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors.
Edna was born on January 28, 1947, in Hamlin, Texas, to Faustino and Audona (Flores) Rios. She spent her formative years in Stamford, Texas. In the early 1960s, Edna relocated to Abilene, Texas, a city that would become her lifelong home. In 1971, she married and raised three children, establishing deep roots within the community where she lived the remainder of her life.
Edna was a strong-willed, kind, loving, and generous woman. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around. She was a fan of her novelas and The Price is Right. Her passion for dancing led her to meet the love of her life, and she was famously infatuated with Ruben Ramos, whom she affectionately called her boyfriend.
For over 50 years, Edna was best known for her exceptional sewing skills. She was a master of alterations, whether it was replacing a zipper, hemming pants, or taking in or letting out clothing. Her talent was so recognized that several cleaners sought her expertise, including Tylers, Ingram, Peerless, Eagle, and Kat's Cleaners, where she ultimately retired. Even after retirement, people continued to seek out her services at her home.
In addition to her professional life, Edna enjoyed gardening, visiting her friends, going out to eat, shopping and attending family events. She was also an active member of St Vincent Catholic Church and Rose Park Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Faustino and Audona Rios; three brothers, Faustino Rios Jr, Manuel Rios, and Ignacio Rios; two sisters, Juanita Flores Arellano and Cruz Rios; and one daughter, Capris Nicole Paz.
She is survived by her husband Felix Gutierrez; three daughters, Alma Paz Archuleta and significant other Eduardo Sarmiento, April Gutierrez, Monica Paz Carroll and husband Marshall, and one son Dion Paz and wife Jovita. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Mystica Arispe and husband Nicco, Klaressa Broughton and husband Mark, Marisela Carreno and husband Sgt Gustavo, Emilio Archuleta and wife Latoya, Vicente Paz, Alaura Soto and husband Brandon, Sergio Garza and wife Kimberly, Alycia Lira and husband Clareance, as well as 19 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends who cherish her memory.
