Eddie Alfred Robert McCorkle was born March 15, 1942 in Stamford, Texas. Ed passed peacefully in his home February 19, 2026 at the age of 83.
Ed retired from Industrial Electric in 2022 after 50 years as shop foreman. He went on to retire in 2024 from Carlsbad (Texas) Church of Christ where he preached for 43 years. Ed also served as chaplain of Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department for several years.
Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing and just being in God's great outdoors. He was an accomplished archer and won multiple Texas State championships. He liked to laugh and enjoyed hamming it up with whomever was around, especially with his grandchildren. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandad, uncle, brother, and friend. He loved the Lord and showed it with his generosity to friends and strangers alike.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Ida Mae McCorkle, and by his sister, Carolyn Sue Patterson, and her husband, Eugene.
He is survived by Phyllis, his beloved wife of 64 years, his Sister Beverly Ferguson and husband Ron of Abilene, his children: Dale McCorkle and wife Bev Anne of Abilene, Denise Sanders and husband DeLane of Wellston, Oklahoma, and Sean McCorkle and wife Cathy of Yorktown, Texas. Ed and Phyllis also have eight grandchildren: Denver Sanders and wife Lydia of Blooming Grove, Catie Dyer and husband Cory of San Angelo, Ruger McCorkle of Denver, Colorado, Chaz Sanders of Del City, Oklahoma, BriAnna Alvarado and husband Bryan of Abilene, Hunter McCorkle and wife Tiffany of Wellington, Bailey Reid McCorkle of Abilene, and Zak Mann of San Marcos, as well as three great-grandchildren: Trinity, Sarah, and Ayden.
A memorial for Ed will be at University Church of Christ in Abilene on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cherokee Home for Children or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
