Doyle Maurice Hufstedler, Jr.

Doyle Maurice Hufstedler, Jr., 83, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026. A memorial service for Doyle will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors Chapel, 733 Butternut Street.

Doyle was born on December 8, 1942, in Abilene, Texas, to Maurice and Doris Ford Hufstedler. He joined the Navy in 1960 and served aboard the USS Wedderburn during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he settled in California, where he worked at Rockwell Industries. He proudly told stories of his work on the Apollo missions.

He married the love of his life, Kathleen Reedy, on July 1, 1977. They were blessed with a son and a daughter before moving back to Abilene and adding two more daughters to their family.

Doyle worked as the Operations Manager of the Maintenance Department for the Abilene Independent School District for more than 30 years. He was a proud member of the Grunts Association and Gold Star Parents. Doyle loved hunting, gunsmithing, and telling stories. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren: Jacob, Grace, Matthew, Caleb, Violet, Christopher, Zachary, and Charlotte.

Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his parents, Maurice and Doris Hufstedler; his sister, Doris Jean; his in-laws, Leo and Ruth Reedy; his son, 1st Lt. Doyle Hufstedler III; and his nephew, Geoffrey Hufstedler.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Gretchen Bullock and husband Mark of Abilene, Michele Choi and husband Sangdo of Flower Mound, and Sarah Driskell and husband Jordan of Abilene; his daughter-in-law, Leslie Hufstedler-Alverez; his eight grandchildren; and his three brothers, Duane and wife Denise, Dean and wife Marcia, and Drew and wife Laura.
