Doris Jean Pierson

Doris Jean Pierson, 91, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Hillcrest Church of Christ, 650 E. Ambler Ave., with a visitation at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Jean was born in Loraine, Texas to Marie and Elvin Brown on May 17, 1935. She grew up on the W.P. Edwards Ranch where her father worked as a ranch hand until 1947. He then started working for Shell Oil Company in Big Spring, Texas.

Jean graduated from Big Spring High School in 1953 and attended Howard County Junior College.

Jean started her first job as a Medical Administrative Secretary for the Veterans Administration (V.A.) Hospital, worked in O.S.I. at Webb Air Force Base, and Malone & Hogan Hospital until she retired.

Jean met her husband when she worked at the V.A. and he was a lab technician there. They married August 16, 1958, in Big Spring, Texas. Born to this marriage was their daughter, Debbie Dean Pierson on February 22, 1960. Jean and Eddie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before he died October 24, 2023.

Jean was a great seamstress, wonderful quilter and loved to make all kinds of bears. She won many blue ribbons for several bears that she made.

Jean was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ since 2000 when they moved to Abilene from Colorado.

Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Don Ray Brown, grandsons Cody Wiley and Jonathan Pederson; daughter, Debbie Dean Pederson, and husband, Edward Allen Pierson.

Jean is survived by her sister Kaon Huey and husband Randall Huey of Abilene; nephew Cory Bell and wife Erica Bell, their son Cameron Bell and their daughter Cassidy Galvan and husband Kanton Galvan plus their sons Isaiah Galvan and Azariah Galvan of New Home, Texas; niece, Beckie Harrill of Excelsior, Minnesota; nephew, Kregg Pierson & wife Sandra Pierson of Abilene and niece Kathy Upham of Lubbock, Texas.
