Charlene (Howell) Lewis, age 90, passed away April 17, 2026, in Clyde, Texas.
She was born June 22, 1935, in Electra, Tx to Charlie and Dollie Howell. Charlene grew up in Andector, Tx where her Dad retired from Texaco. She maintained relationships with many of her childhood friends, including Peggy Hemphill, who is unable to attend today.
Charlene was widowed at a young age (35) in 1971 and was forced to raise her 3 young children by herself…having never worked outside the home before. After her children left home, she enjoyed traveling, dancing, casinos, sparkly jewelry, a glass of sweet red wine, and her volunteer work at the Rose Park Senior Center, carrying trays and helping the older seniors.
She was married to Don Carlos Lewis (until his death in 1971), they shared 3 children.
After his death, she met her second husband, Jerome Schwartz, of San Angelo at a Parents Without Partners meeting. They were married for 27 years.
In 2002, Charlene moved to Odessa, Tx to be near her beloved brother, Roy and his wife, Charlene. It was there that she met her 3rd husband, Pat McCord, at a dance. They decided to travel while they still could, sold everything, bought a new truck and 5th wheel and traveled the United States. After many miles, they decided to settle in Laughlin, Nevada, meeting great friends for several years.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Barbara, and 3 brothers, Toby, Ken, and Roy, her first husband, Don Lewis (1971) and her 3rd husband Pat McCord (2014).
She is survived by her daughter/caretaker, Donna Butler and her husband, Everett. Granddaughter, Angela Clark and her husband Chuck. Grandsons Jared Butler and wife Cathy, Jason Butler and wife Yvette, and CJ Butler (fiancée Samantha McGarity). Great grandchildren Caleb Clark, Courtney Clark, (Daniel Castaneda), Aubrey Clark, Ava Butler, Myra Butler, and Josh Butler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider a donation to Clyde Nursing Home. As a special request, in Charlene’s “Nanaws” honor, please spend time creating memories with your loved ones. Remembering that we are all far from perfect and time wasted on bitterness and holding onto past grievances, only hurts future generations and deprives them of connection with extended family.
