Bryon Penrod passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on January 5, 1938, in Wichita Falls to James Clyde and Florence Wiles Penrod. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1956 and NMMI in 1958. Byron, his father, and two sisters all graduated from Baylor. He enlisted in the army serving at the Nike Missile Site, Battery B. He married Louella Walraven on September 1, 1962. After his discharge from the Army, he earned a degree in Interior Design and worked for Waldrop’s, Brittain’s, and MacAndrews Furniture stores. Upon retiring, he worked part time for Region XIV Service Center. Throughout his life, he took great pride in his vintage car and train collection and his Christmas villages. He worked diligently each year on the Army reunions and loved visiting with his good friends.
He is survived by his wife, Louella Penrod, as well as nephews and nieces, Neal, Dorsi (Von), D’Anne, Randy (Vicki), Penny (Cory), Ricky (Cissy) and their children and godchildren Shelly (Cody), Kelly (Brad) and their children.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful nurses and staff of the home health and Wesley Court who have taken such good care of Byron these past few years. A very special thanks goes to Nancy Sandoval.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to a charity of your choice.
A military burial will be at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, followed by a reception at Wesley Court, 2617 Antilley Rd. Abilene, TX 79606.
