Brady Edward Smith

Brady Edward Smith, 49, passed away unexpectedly on August 24, 2026. Though his passing came far too soon, there is comfort in knowing that God orchestrated his final moments so that he left this life in the arms of those who loved and cared for him deeply.

Brady was a true lover of the outdoors and cherished the quiet life he had built on his land. He loved hunting, spending time with his dogs, growing vegetables, and learning everything he could about the world around him. He had a deep thirst for knowledge and could spend hours researching a subject, listening to experts, and following a question wherever it led. He was especially knowledgeable about native Texas flora and could tell you more about the plants growing around him than most people ever thought to ask.

Brady was a homebody at heart, happiest on his own land and surrounded by the things he loved. Still, he managed to make a few memorable adventures, including trips to Alaska and Washington State. Alaska captured a piece of his heart like nowhere else, and he dreamed of moving there someday.

And then there were his dogs.

Brady had many dogs throughout his life, but none compared to Peaches. She stole his heart and became his best friend, staying faithfully by his side through all the ups and downs of life until June of this year. It brings comfort to those who loved him to imagine that the two of them are now sitting side by side once again, together as they were meant to be.

Brady was also welcomed home by those who had gone before him, including all of his grandparents, his buddy and cousin Will Greensage, and, most importantly, his mother, Linda Smith. The connection between Brady and his mom ran deep, and he missed her immensely this side of Heaven. There is a special peace in imagining that they are together again, that after all the things Brady searched for, learned about, wondered about, and longed for in this life, he has finally found his way home to her.

Brady will be remembered for his curious mind, his love of the land, his dogs, his family, his quiet nature, his incredible knowledge, his great sense of humor, and the many little things that made him uniquely Brady.

People who loved him deeply and will carry his memory with them: his father, Larry (Kelli) Smith of Rotan, Texas; his brother, Tyler (Lori) Smith of Little Elm, Texas; his sister, Larinda (Michael) Wheeler of Fort Worth, Texas; his beloved Aunt Barbara "Bobo" and Uncle Ken; Uncle Danny and Aunt Pat; and Shelley Jacques, who held a special place in his life and was also by his side in his final moments. Those also cherishing their memories are close friends Andy and Shannon Leija; his niece and nephews; his heart-adopted grandkids; and countless friends and family members whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.

You will be deeply missed, Brady. Give Mom and Peaches a hug for us.

Services will be this Saturday, Aug. 29, at Beltway Park Church South (Small Chapel on North End), 4009 Beltway S, Abilene, TX 79606. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m.
