Billie Louise Smith Allen passed away April 29, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 99. She was born to Thomas Thurston and Stacy Vivian Smith in Mitchell County near the community of Buford. She grew up helping on the cotton farm and still owned this farm at the time of her death. Billie was a banker by profession, working in many different capacities until her retirement. After attending Abilene Christian College, she married Donald Sam Allen, a rancher from Terrell County near Sanderson. She was the consummate rancher’s wife, feeding the livestock, helping pull windmills, and helping anywhere else she was needed...except pen work. She said the boss had a short temper when working stock and she wasn’t going to put up with that! All this while keeping house and raising four children. If she ever took a nap, she wouldn’t admit it...too much to do. A wise woman for sure, an oft-used expression was “the less said, the better."
Billie’s marriage to Don was on December 9, 1945, in Colorado City, Texas. To this union were born four children, Vicki Lynn (Tim) Deveny, Donald Steven (Carla) Allen, Thomas Ray (Judy) Allen and Gary Joe (Laura) Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sam, and by her sons Thomas Ray and Gary Joe.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Nicole Dickey, David Deveny, Elissa Farah, Janette Perea, Lori Wallace, Cade Allen, Johnny Nguyen, Cole Allen, and Jace Allen. Grandsons Troy Allen and Ben Allen, already with their Heavenly Father, met their Mimi with loving arms. Billie’s great-grandchildren are: Case, Skye, and Drew Dickey; Nolan, Clara and Dean Deveny; Samson and Simon Farah; Jackson and Eli Allen; Genevieve and Celeste Perea; Macy and Zoey Wallace; Ben and Sydney Nguyen; Judah, Vera and Margo Allen; and Ty, Anna Kate and Lily Allen.
Billie was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, having memberships in Sanderson, Colorado City, and Abilene. For most of her life, she was a dedicated Bible class teacher. A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene Saturday, June 14, at two o’clock. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens, Snyder, Texas.
