Betty Sue Brown

December 11, 1935 - October 5, 2025

Betty Sue Brown, 89, of Abilene, passed away in the morning hours on Sunday morning, October 5, 2025. A visitation service will be held in her honor on Tuesday, 2025, from 5pm-6:30pm. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Betty was born December 11, 1935, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, to Raymond and Gladys Elkins, in their small log home. Betty loved her husband Bob, who she met at Harding University. Their relationship took off when Bob invited her to his club’s outing to Blanchard Springs. That date led to their marriage on January 8, 1957. Their home grew when Scott and Rick entered their worlds, 13 months apart. Betty had grown up in a simple home with a lot of love and those roots bore fruit in her life and family. She loved simple things like walks, talks with friends, rocking grandkids and great grandkids and going to church. One of her favorite seasons of life was when she and Bob lived in San Angelo, TX and they attended the Johnson St. Church of Christ. While her sons were teenagers the others in the youth group referred to her and Bob as Mama and Papa Brown. Many still do.

But her favorite memories were of her family and all her grandkids and great grandkids. She had a strong faith in God and passed into his arms after a peaceful time in her home, cared for lovingly by her husband of 68 years, Bob. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of many, but we rejoice that she has gone to meet her Savior.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Gladys Elkins, older brother Bill and his wife Reba.

Betty is survived by her husband Bob Brown, son Scott Brown and wife Julie, son Rick Brown and wife Karen, grandchildren Jonathan, Michelle, Ryan, Kristofer and Taylor, brother David Elkins and wife Sara, and five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Betty’s memory to Children’s Home in Paragould Arkansas, childrenshomes.org.  Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
