Bessie Jo Peden

Bessie “Jo” Cherry was born on July 29, 1923 in Granada, Colorado to Richard and Elizabeth Cain Cherry. She was the youngest of six children. She died on March 6, 2026 at the age of 102.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Virgie Kerns, Olivia Crowder, Frank Cherry, Delma Cherry, Thelma Bennett and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her four children: Richard Peden (Jan), Jerry Peden (Cheryl), Linda Stokes (Gordon), Jim Peden (Jeannie) and grandchildren: Kim Summit (Jim), John Peden (Mary Ann), Christie Pruitt (Kevin), Brian Stokes (Tina), Brad Stokes (Cheryl), Sarah Peden, Crystal Peden, Chris (Rachael) Peden, and great grandchildren: Sammy Peden, Jack Peden, Hannah Stokes, Emily Stokes, Andrew Peden and Rylee Peden.

Jo was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. After moving to Texas to be near her daughter, she was the oldest member at Southern Hills Church of Christ.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April the 11th at 10:00am in the chapel at Hillcrest Church of Christ.
