Barbara Jeanne Gray, 91 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Friday, October 13, 2017. Service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in the Chapel at University Church of Christ under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Visitation will be Monday, October 16 th from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Family Room at University Church of Christ, 733 E.N. 16th Street.
Barbara was born May 23, 1926 in Abilene, Texas to Grover and Alma Morlan. She graduated in 1945 from ACU with a BS and went on to the University of Texas at Austin where she received her MA in 1947.
The daughter of an educator, Barbara had a love of learning and teaching. Barbara always enjoyed reading, passing that passion on to her children and grandchildren. So deep was her love for literature and literacy, Barbara Jeanne and C.G. helped foster an understanding and drive in others by volunteering at church and Jane Long Elementary to read to kids.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents G.C. and Alma Morlan, sister Alice Alene Floyd, brothers G.C. Morlan, Jr., and John Morlan. She is survived by her husband C.G. Gray, her three sons: John Gray and wife Debbi of Bothell, Washington and their children Jordan, Daniel, and Joy Gray; David Gray and wife Sheri of Lubbock and their children Erin Starkey and husband Seth, Michael, and Matthew Gray and his wife Katie; and Cary Gray and wife Emily of Wheaton, Illinois. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Lincoln Starkey. Other immediate family members include her sister Alma Faye Price and husband Wes of Cedar Hills, Texas.
