Jonna L. Fernandez

Jonna Lee Fernandez, 74 of Abilene, passed away at a local nursing home on Monday, October 17, 2016.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  A visitation with the family will be on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Great Room of Piersall Funeral Directors.

Jonna was born in Moline, Illinois on October 30, 1941 to John and Lillian Wilkens.  In 1964, Jonna enlisted into the United States Air Force and served as a nurse for 3 years.  Upon her discharge from the service, she continued working as a nurse and in 1979, she made her way to Abilene.  Jonna volunteered with Meals on Wheels, earning the Volunteer of the Month award in August of 2009 and she was a member of the 14 ^th & Oak Street Church of Christ.

Jonna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Wilkens.  She is survived by her son Edward Fernandez and his wife Antonette of Marietta, Georgia, and two grandchildren, Lucas and Isabella Fernandez.
