Wilda Lee McDonald, 92 of Abilene, passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on December 16, 2015. A graveside service will be held Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at Elmwood Memorial Park in the Garden of Memories. A visitation with the family will be held Sunday afternoon from 4-6pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
Wilda was born April 16, 1923 to Sam James Porter and Clara Nell Adams Porter. She graduated High School at Forsan, TX. After receiving her license for Cosmetology, she worked many years as a hairdresser for other salons as well as her own three salons in Abilene.
She met the love of her life, Clifton Dell McDonald, in 1941. They married October 23, 1942, in Lamesa, TX.., and had one child, Leeta, in 1945. After becoming a grandmother, Wilda became known as "Granny" to family and friends. Granny was a wonderful cook and never wanted to see anyone without food. Her first words when you came to visit were, “Are you hungry?” and “Can I fix you something to eat?”
She was a “people-person” loving to talk and visit. That’s why she loved hairdressing and her patrons who became friends for life. She had a fun, witty sense of humor, and always had something amusing to say for any situation. Children and animals were very special to her, but her greatest love was Jesus Christ. She was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
Wilda was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff; her brother, Sammie Porter; and her parents. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leeta and Leonard Harris, sister-in-law Marjorie Porter, granddaughter LeAnn and Dr. Jess Dowdy, grandson Samuel Clifton and wife Tammy Harris; great grandson Josh and wife Victoria Dowdy, great granddaughters; Jill and Riley Nipper, JuliAnn and Tanner Fenimore, Haley and Ashley Harris. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her friends, family and especially her loving dog Lucy.
THIS IS NOT THE END, ONLY THE BEGINNING
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hendrick Hospice, Kristy Williams with Visiting Angels and Kathy Rhyne with IntegraCare for their loving Care.
