Gordon Wayland Carter, 68 of Abilene, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at The Springs Brain Injury Program Center in Gonzales, Texas. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Services are under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Wayland was born on October 21, 1947 to Gordon and Annie Carter in Abilene. Wayland was a 1967 graduate of Abilene High School and worked for 15 years for Abilene Bedding as a mattress builder until a work related injury forced him stop working. Wayland loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing and playing softball. He was also a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Abilene.
Wayland was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Moore Carter and Annie Dalton Carter, as well as a niece, Brenda Diane Hendricks. He is survived by his brothers, Jerry Hendricks and wife Brenda of Abilene and Garland Carter and wife Beverly of Oplin; nieces Allison Everett and husband Ryan of San Antonio and Meredith Lancaster and husband Chris of Waco; and nephews Don Hendricks of Abilene and Tim Carter and wife Cassie of Round Rock.
