Kathryn O'Neil Nadeau

May 5, 1924 — October 20, 2014

Kathryn (Kay) O’Neil Drake Nadeau, 90, of Abilene, TX went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2014 in Abilene, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at Southern Hills Church of Christ chapel on Wednesday, November 5th at 3:00pm. Phil ware and Danny Minton will be officiating. A private graveside service for the family will follow in Kennedale, Texas, at a later date.
Kay (Oma) was born May 5, 1924 to Gooch Wade Drake and Katy Mae Bledsoe Drake in Alexandria, Arkansas. She was the youngest of seven children. While a freshman at Harding College, she met a senior on his way to preach the gospel to the whole world. Before completing college Kay left the only home she had ever known to follow the man of her heart. She boarded a train to Reno, Nevada, where, her soon to be husband, was the preacher for a small congregation of the Church of Christ. Kay was at her husband’s side for 50 years while he served congregations from Oregon to Germany and back. She dedicated herself to her family and to mission work all of her life. Her greatest accomplishment by far was gifting her parents with eight grandchildren over a period of 18 years. Somewhere along the way at various educational institutions she was able to complete her BA degree in Education at Lubbock Christian University. In her last years she dedicated herself to loving her children and spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses, and her greats. She also gave of herself to her church family whom she loved dearly.
Kay was preceded in death by her late husband Jack Nadeau, her parents, her six siblings, one daughter Deanna Kay Nadeau Wilson from Cologne, Germany and one grandson Harlan Lowell Cook from Arp, Texas.
Kay is survived by seven of her children. Donna Beth Garrett and her husband Dan of Abilene, Janet Rae Cook and her husband Anthony from Palestine, TX. Timothy Jack Nadeau and his wife Debbie from Placitas, NM, Jack Nadeau Jr. and his wife Marion, from Franklin TN, John Joseph Nadeau and his wife Spring, from Kennedale, TX, Philip Brent Nadeau and his wife Wendi, from Unity, ME and Phyllis Annette Hill and her husband Glenn also from Franklin, TN. Kay has 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and more on the way.
Kay and her family would like to express deep appreciation to all of her friends who made the last years of her life more convenient as she became legally blind and challenged by health issues. The family would especially like to thank the wonderful people at Hospice of the Big Country for their superb attention to our mother and patriarch during the last days of her earthly journey. Her New Life has begun.
Kay had a generous heart. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to Hospice of the Big Country or the charity of your choice.
