Jay Thomas "Tommy" Welch, Jr.

Jay Thomas "Tommy" Welch, 49, of Abilene, passed away on August 15, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center. A service is scheduled for Sunday, August 17 at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Tommy was born March 19, 1965 in Abilene to Jay Thomas “Tom” Welch Sr. and Marty Lou Welch. He was a lifelong resident of Abilene and a graduate of Abilene High School. Tommy started working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a prison guard in 1994. He worked at the Robertson and Middleton Units until his retirement in 2009. Tommy loved to hunt, fish and almost any sport. He golfed, coached little league baseball, and enjoyed watching the Cowboys, Rangers and his Abilene Eagles.
Tommy is survived by his sons Andrew Taylor Welch of Cedar Park, Texas, Jammie Allen Treat and wife Vanessa of Merkel, Texas, daughter Monica Guinn and husband BJ of Abilene, five grandchildren and many aunts, uncles and cousins. His father Tom, mother Marty, and sister Kathy Jenkins preceded Tommy in death.
