William Don Hardin, 61, of Abilene passed away on March 25 at a local medical center. There will be a visitation with the family on Wednesday evening March 27, from 5pm to 7pm, at the Piersall Benton Funeral Directors 733 Butternut Street. Don was born to Leo and Ava Hardin in Stamford, Texas. He graduated from Lueders-Avoca in 1970 and received a 2 year degree from Draughon’s Business College. He most recently worked in insurance as a photographer for StreetDelivery, and did many different things throughout his life, including working for E-Z Serve and Southwestern Bell. He married the love of his life Lycia in 1972 and they raised their three children here in Abilene. Don loved God, his family and six-man football. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Don was an avid six-man football fan and blogged about the games he attended and the many Texas teams he enjoyed watching and keeping track of. He was truly an ambassador of the sport. Don was a long time member of the Church of Christ, was an elder at South 11th and Willis, and most recently has been attending the University Church of Christ.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patsy Lewis. He is survived by his wife Lycia, his mother in law Ruth King, a son Bradley and wife Kim and their children Caleb and Bayleigh of Waco, daughter Angela and husband Matt Moczygemba and their children Molly, Nathan, Sam and Timothy of San Antonio, and daughter Casie Hardin of Spearfish, South Dakota, his brother Jerry Hardin and wife Ann of Rosenberg, Texas as well as many extended family members and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Don to the donors charity of choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
