Marian Piersall

Administrative Assistant/Pre-Need Specialist/Mom

Marian is a native of central Washington, but has lived in Abilene since 1986. An educator with the Abilene ISD for 26 years, Marian is now “retired” but still active in the community and at the funeral home.

Marian is on the board for the Women of ACU, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University Women, and a long-time member of the 11th and Willis Church of Christ.

She is married to Dr. Paul Piersall, Dean Emeritus of the College of Music at ACU. Marian has two sons, Dr. Rick Piersall, Assistant Professor of Voice, Opera and Music History at ACU and Randy Piersall, owner and funeral director of Piersall Funeral Directors. Marian is also a licensed pre-need specialist and takes care of many of the day to day operations of the funeral home.

Dave Boyll

Funeral Assistant

Partner and President of Abilene Radio Corporation which operated Radio Stations KWKC-AM 1340 and KZQQ-AM 1560. Dave graduated in 1964 from Abilene Christian with a BS in Education. He began his radio career in 1959 at KWKC-AM working overnight while a Sophomore at Abilene Christian. After graduation he became Program Director at KWKC and continued there until 1969.

On April 14th, 1962 Dave married Margie Coker . Margie was a Math teacher at Lincoln Middle School. She graduated in 1962 from Abilene Christian with a degree in elementary school education. She taught for 30 years in the Abilene Independent School District. She taught at Lee and Bowie Elementary as well as Lincoln Middle School. Dave and Margie have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Dave is very civically active serving on numerous boards and in several local organizations some which are the Abilene Rotary Club (35yrs) President in 1975-76, Boy Scout Council (Chisholm Trail Council) President ‘85 thru ‘87, Abilene State School Volunteer Services Council since 1976 (chairman ’86-’89), member of Board of Crime Stoppers of Abilene and Keep Abilene Beautiful. As you would expect Dave enjoy’s listening to music. But he also likes to do wood working projects and in recent years flying his flight simulators on his computer.

Hazel Fillmon

Funeral Assistant

Hazel was born in Abilene and graduated from Wylie High School in 1953. After her Freshman year at ACC, she married Wesley Fillmon (’52 grad) in June, 1954. For the

next 18 years they served churches in Texas and Nebraska. While living in Van Horn, TX, Wesley died suddenly with a massive heart attack (1972). At that time the children were ages 16 (Matthew), 13 (Rebecca), and 11 (Ellen).

In June,1974 Hazel and the children moved back to Abilene where she went to work in the Registrar’s office at Abilene Christian as secretary to Ken Rasco. In 1978, she moved into Sikes Residence Hall as the Director. In August of 2000, she moved from Sikes to Oxford, England, serving as the Resident Director for the Study Abroad Program.

When she returned to campus in August, 2001, still not ready to retire , Hazel accepted the position of Secretary to Marianna Rasco, Chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. After that department was reallocated in 2003, Hazel accepted the job as Executive Assistant to Dr. Carol Williams, Dean of the Graduate School. In 2009, Dr. Williams took a new position and Dr. Carley Dodd was appointed the Graduate School Dean. Hazel remained in that position until she FINALLY decided to retire in June 2013.

While working at ACU for 39 years, Hazel managed to complete a BS degree in Sociology (emphasis in Gerontology) in 1991, and a MS Degree in Family Studies in 1997.

All three of the children and two of the “in-laws” attended ACU. Both daughters and the daughter-in-law are teachers. Hazel is blessed with 7 grandchildren (ranging in age from 21 to 32, and two great- grandchildren, ages 10 and 8.

Hazel attends Woodlawn Church of Christ where she teaches a Ladies Bible Class, volunteers one morning a week at Christian Service Center and is actively involved in Women for Abilene Christian University.
